Frontispiece for the Wilson Journal of Ornithology – Broad-winged Hawk migration

by Bryce W. Robinson

I’m privileged to have the above painting featured as the frontispiece for the most recent issue of the Wilson Journal of Ornithology, to correspond to the feature article “Satellite tracking reveals age and origin differences in migration ecology of two populations of Broad-winged Hawks (Buteo platypterus)” led by my friend Becca McCabe.

The article details full cycle migratory movements of two populations of Broad-winged Hawks (Buteo platypterus), from Alberta and from Pennsylvania. It is excellent work comparing and contrasting the movement ecology for the two populations, and should provide important groundwork and information for conservation measures aimed at ensuring the species will always have what it needs, wherever it goes. Great work Becca et al.!
